Listening To Warning Dreams

In the year 2000 I had just broken up with my business partner and was eagerly going about building up my housekeeping business to acquire a few more customers. I received a call from a man to clean a rental he owned.

I was to meet the customer at the rental on my side of the water. I would do a walk through and give a bid. The man lived across the water. I was living in a small country town called Kingston. If I wanted to go to the big city we had a ferry crossing to go into Lynwood or Seattle. It cost money to ride the ferry and it took 20 to 30 minutes to cross.

As I hung up the phone I couldn't believe my luck in getting a call so quick from my ad. Little did I know the man was interviewing me for a different sort of job than just the house cleaning.

Yet my subconscious must have suspected something as I had this most interesting dream the night after he called. A little bit of explanation about how I ran my business. I expected to be paid right after the job. In rare cases I'll accept a check in the mail. As I recall the conversation the man mentioned he had a bank on my side of the water and would withdraw my wages while he was in town.

This discussion is not the usual kind I was used to. How the customer gets the money is no concern of mine, just so long as he gets it! I recall in our initial conversation he did not like the suggestion that he pay me by the hourly rate I wished. I then agreed to do a bid instead and we made an appointment.

My dream was going to warn me about this man. About his intentions. He did indeed have a rental that was direly in need of cleaning; but he also had hanky panky in mind.

As the dream unfolded I found myself riding in this man's car down the highway a quarter mile from my farm. In dream language this means I was the passenger, he was driving me somewhere which translates to he had control of the vehicle. I did not.

In reality, I did not get into his car and it would have been against my principles to do so. Dreams are usually about thoughts and intentions of self and others.

I recognized the man's energy in the dream as it being the man who had called me. He had a very authoritative way of speaking, with a high energy; a persuasive way about him, both in the dream and in reality. Also, to my wonderment, I had dream-detected the man's physical characteristics, weight and build.

He was driving fast and I felt no fear exactly but I was hoping he'd slow down. We went over a dip in the road and I felt my stomach do one of those roller coaster flops and something told me he enjoyed driving too fast and causing women to hold onto their hats. I still did not suspect ulterior motives in our business deal at this point. He was trying to convince me, both in the dream and in reality later, to drive my car unto the ferry and go to his home. He was trying to convince me I should do this. That was the end of the dream and upon awakening I was to prominently recall the jolt in the pit of my stomach and I attached meaning to this from the way the man was so enthusiastic about getting me to come to his home, as if I should widen my already adventurous nature yet further by complying with his illogical projections.

As it turned out in reality, his rental looked as if it had not been cleaned since it had been constructed about a 100 years ago. I realized my bid had been too low the first day of cleaning but resolved, a bid is a bid and next time I'd take a closer look before discussing price. The evening of the first day of cleaning the man reappeared and I told him I would be finished around noon of the following day.

It was at that point that the man began to try and convince me to drive to the ferry and go to his house for my check on the other side of the water. I knew I would not do that and again expressed that he could mail me a check and I assured him that would be quite all right. I mentioned I would most likely get lost trying to find his home anyway.

At that point he told me how close his home was to the ferry, just a jaunt down the freeway he said. His voice began to rise in cheer lead style. I could see he really wanted me to do this, and I was suspicious but not overly so. He mentioned he had no cash on his person, yet I clearly remember him saying he had a bank on this side of the water.

Not wanting to put him on the defensive, I did not mention the bank here in town. Seeing he would not convince me to drive across the water, he finally dropped the subject and left me to do the rest of the cleaning.

When he returned he handed me the bid money plus some extra without my asking for it. It seemed he had turned over a new leaf entirely; like a miracle change had come over him. He must have thought things over and realized I was not going to socialize with him and business was business.

I believe what I was picking up in the dream was his intention to get me across the water, and how he was imagining that he could do just that. I suppose his intentions could have been to acquire simply a new girlfriend. It could well have been that innocent. Then again, I just cannot say for sure what would have happened on the other side of the water.

His tactics, if innocent were to use a lie to get what he wanted. What he didn't know, was that luring me to pick up my money at his house would never work, as I wasn't doing this work for money so much as I did it to fill in my time and with service to the customer as the motive. I never had to chase down what was coming to me when I cleaned houses. Most people were honest and paid right away. What else he didn't know, is I'd seen him in dreamland and I had his number. Dreams can protect you, and they also can point out who you are, what you're all about. This way you can maintain your integrity and not be misled by others who are not telling the truth, or saying one thing, but meaning quite another.
